Healthcare@Home paper selected by IMIA as a "Best paper of 2008".
The paper on "Simultaneous Trend Analysis for Evaluating Outcomes in Patient-centred Health Monitoring Services", written by the Healthcare@Home team at Cardiff University has been selected by the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) as one of the "Best papers of 2008" in the theme of "Closing the Loops in Biomedical Informatics - From Theory to Daily Practice". Using Diabetes as an exemplar condition, the paper addresses the problem of understanding the disease progression in terms of developing risk and the use of a closed-loop informatics approach to prescribing interventions and subsequently following-up on outcomes. In his themed review for the IMIA Yearbook 2009, the editor, Arnaud Gaudinat, picks out the paper by Ed Conley, David Owens, Stephen Luzio, Mahesh Subramanian, Ali Shaikh Ali, Alex Hardisty and Omer Rana as one of 5 papers published during 2008 that "demonstrate the maturity of closed-loop approaches" in the application of informatics to patient care. Of the Cardiff paper, he says it addresses: "... currently a very active field in health to prevent and better treat the patient anywhere at any time." |
